Methodology

I will be using a selection of YouTube clips to collect the data I need to do my investigation. I’ll using two minute sections of a Gordon Ramsay clips and two minute sections of a Jamie Oliver clips, turning them into transcripts.

Ramsay has varying shows. He has Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay’s Great Escape and Gordon Ramsay’s F-Word. Kitchen Nightmares and The F-Word will be most relevant to me as they are times when his use of language is particularly politically incorrect, however I will also use Gordon Ramsay’s Great Escape to use as a comparison to his usual use of language as I expect there to be a significant language change.

With Jamie Oliver I will use clips from Jamie’s Food Revolution, Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals and Jamie at Home. Between these I expect there to be a difference in language between the Food Revolution compared with the other two shows as in Jamie’s Food Revolution he is talking to people rather than just a camera and he is under a considerably larger amount of stress.

I expect there to be quite a difference between their language and mannerisms. They deal with different situations within their profession and when they're dealing with similar situations they handle things very differently to one another.

  1. Your methodology is ok as a first draft.
The exam board need you to explain or justify your choice of clips of material or selection of "stuff" in your methodology.
Can you develop your reasons for the particular clips you have chosen, including the lengths you have used? It might be worth considering the info in the transcripts as a way to explain why they are particularly relevant.
